Until very recently, Rock Band on the Wii was little more than a pipe dream. Still, that didn’t stop Jennifer and Vance from whipping up what’s likely the hottest Rock Band drum kit mod we’ve seen to date — one Mario and friends would unquestionably appreciate. We doubt the shrooms will help those fragile pads resist breakage if you’re heavy-handed by nature, but it’s entirely likely to make rocking out that much more fun when banging on these guys. Leap on past the break for a video demonstration, and check the read link for lots more pics.

The Chumby has already proven itself to be quite the hackable device, and now one of the more prolific Chumby hackers out there has taken things up a few notches by not only giving it a bigger VGA screen, but a new cold, hard exterior as well. As will quickly become clear if you read through the how-to linked below, however, this latest hack by bunnie (of Robo Chumby fame) is certainly not for the faint of heart, with a stereo microscope even required for some of the more delicate work. If you manage to plow through it though, you’ll soon have a slightly clearer view of your favorite Chumby widgets, not to mention a device that you definitely won’t have to worry about anyone picking up and squeezing.

Generally speaking, when your good toys go bad, sitting them down within a cramped up doll house is adequate punishment. Unfortunately, said tactic is no longer valid if your kiddo’s doll house is equipped with a Dolls House TV. This handcrafted 12th scale television — which is just barely taller than a AA battery — is built to feel right at home in Barbie’s domicile, and considering that it features composite inputs, you can even watch a DVD or play Guitar Hero while trying not to squint. Granted, we can’t see paying

Nah, it’s not April 10th just yet (no, not even in England), but one particular bloke managed to score one of Nike’s new SportBands at a London marathon exhibition today. The going rate on that side of the pond was

Pioneer has just announced it’s product line up for it’s new Kuro 2008 models. It’s existing Kuro plasma HDTVs are extremely popular, award winning, and probably the very best plasmas avaliable. Given this, we are very excited to hear about their 2008 lineup for the Kuro range.
Pioneer has done something rather surprising, they have expanded the KURO product line into two other display technologies, no longer will the Kuro just be plasma. The two new display methods are, front projection in the Pioneer KRF-9000FD projector, and some LCD Kuros. And finally, for the plasma lovers, don’t worry, there are four new plasma HDTVs in the Kuro lineup which look very impressive.

Wouldn’t you know it? No, really — didn’t you completely understand that Nintendo wouldn’t be releasing something as magnificent as a stark white GameCube controller in the States? Okay, so maybe NoA hasn’t made that official, but we’re betting the unit you see there on the right will be a (highly coveted) Japanese exclusive. Apparently the Big N is re-issuing a Wii-white GameCube controller in its homeland this month with an extended (3-meter) cord, and while we can’t glean any pricing information from the crumb of information out there right now, go ahead and start stacking those pennies for use on your favorite importer.

As the multimedia hard drive market continues to quietly swell in the shadows, recently-acquired Iomega is making sure it keeps pace with the competition by giving its long-standing ScreenPlay HD a few attractive extras. The unit has certainly come a long ways since its 60GB days, now packing a full half-terabyte of space, an HDMI port and component / composite connections to boot. Furthermore, the drive understands WAV, WMA, MPEG-1/2/4, MP3, OGG, AC3, AVI, DivX, XviD and JPEG file formats, upconverts SD content to 720p / 1080i and even comes bundled with a remote to keep your hindquarters firmly planted. Not too shabby for $218.45, but just make sure you’ve got a place laid out to hide this thing from straying eyes.

We’ve been waiting to get our hands on the SlingCatcher ever since it was announced at CES in 2007 (and re-announced at this past CES) but it looks like we’ll have to wait a little longer — Gregg Wilkes, Sling’s VP of sales, has said the product won’t be released this quarter as scheduled, but rather sometime later this year. Sling hasn’t made this announcement publicly, though: Gregg simply emailed a would-be customer his apologies, saying Sling was committed to providing a “compelling and enjoyable user experience and value proposition,” and that the SlingCatcher is still being refined. He also mentioned that Sling’s recent acquisition by EchoStar has gummed up the works a bit, but that “all indications point” to a SlingCatcher release in 2008. So reassuring considering the product is already a year late. We talked to our friends at Sling and while they wouldn’t comment directly on the contents of the email, they did say the SlingCatcher will only be released when the company “is confident it’s designed to our high standards.” Yep, that’s a delay. Full email exchange after the break.

We’ve known think tanks to come up with some fairly unbelievable determinations before, but the Machine Industry Memorial Foundation may not be too far off with its latest assessment. It’s suggesting that the jobs of 3.5 million people in Japan could be filled not with younger folks, but with mechanical creatures by 2025. Currently, Japan’s population is declining, and the proportion of those 65-years and up is continually swelling; analysts are asserting that the nation could save around
